Le siège du pilote

Le Blériot XI que l'on construit au Centre sera muni d'un siège à cadre en pin blanc lamifié. Le dossier et le siège seront fait de bandes de frêne noir. Afin de construire un siège de ce genre, nous avons communiqué avec Preston Jacobs, responsable du «Survival School» à Kahnawake où l'on enseigne les techniques Mohawk traditionnelles. Une de ces techniques est celle du tressage de paniers. Ce genre de structure légère était courant durant les premières années de l'aviation.

M. Jacobs et trois de ses élèves qui travailleront sur ce projet ont visité le Centre le 11 février 2007. Ci-dessous, des photos prises durant la visite.

The pilot's seat

The Blériot XI aircraft being built at the Centre features a pilot's seat with the frame made of laminations of white pine, and the seat and back woven with thin strips of black ash. In order to manufacture such a seat, we approached Preston Jacobs of Kahnawake, who is in charge of the Survival School, where traditional Mohawk skills are taught. Among those skills are basket weaving. Such light stuctures were commonly used for aircraft seating in the very early days of aviation.

Mr Jacobs and three of his students who will be working on this project visited the Centre on February 11, 2007. Photos of the visit are shown below.
